Literature Text

The last dream you ever have
Is supposed to be the best,
Because that's where you stay.

Your spirit never emerged
From this dream,
Only your body did.

As soon as your vessel
Lost its remaining life,
The dream became real.

The dream became you.

Whether in it was a field,
Or an ocean,
Or perhaps even home,
It will be where you dreamed.

A moment of joy,
Because sorrow
Can never enter into this.

You're still home, as you were.
Maybe you'll visit me in my dreams,
And though I awaken every morning,
I'll know that it wasn't just a dream
For you.
For my teacher, Mrs. L., who recently lost her 7-year-old son, Max.

He was born with a soft brain, disabling him from learning, a hole in his heart, and dwarfism. The doctors said he would only live hours after birth, but he lived on. Every few months, they predicted his death in a matter of weeks or less, and this when on for 7 years.
He passed away the week of finals. Mrs. L. wasn't at school for quite some time, and I was deeply sorry for her and her son.

So I wrote this to give to her eventually, when I build up the courage to share it with her. I'm just afraid she'll read it right away and cry in class or something, and I don't want my peers to see her that way because they may joke about it later, but losing family is very hard, especially when you're supposed to outlive that member.

Edit: I added the parts I took out to the entire poem. <3
